Skills

When you make an ability check using a skill, add your proficiency in that skill to the check. Your proficiency in a skill equals your proficiency bonus if you have proficiency with that skill, or twice your proficiency bonus if you have expertise with that skill.

Animal Handling is for interacting with animals, especially mounts.

Arcana

Ability: Intelligence
Arcana is for knowledge of, and reasoning about, magic. It is explicitly used in the identify spell reaction and the study action.

Athletics

Ability: Strength
Athletics is for feats of sport and strength. It is explicitly used in climbing, jumping, grappling, and several unarmed attacks.

Deception

Ability: Charisma
Deception is used for keeping a straight face and convincing people of facts you know to be false. It is explicitly used in the taunt action.

History

Ability: Intelligence
History is for knowledge of past people, places, and events. It is explicitly used in the study action.

Insight

Ability: Wisdom
Insight is for judging people's nature and intent. It is explicitly used in the search action.

Intimidation

Ability: Charisma
Intimidation is for scaring others and making yourself appear more threatening. It is explicitly used in the frighten action.

Investigation

Ability: Intelligence
Investigation is for finding information based on knowldge you already have and readily available resources. It is explicitly used in the search action.

Medicine

Ability: Wisdom
Medicine is for diagnosing and treating health problems. It is explicitly used in the heal action.

Nature

Ability: Intelligence
Nature is for knowledge of plants, beasts, and the environment. It is explicitly used in the study action.

Perception

Ability: Wisdom
Perception is for noticing things and using your physical senses. It is explicitly used in the search action and hidden condition.

Performance

Ability: Charisma
Performance is for acting a part or playing a musical instrument. It is explicitly used in the taunt action.

Persuasion

Ability: Charisma
Persuasion is for inspiring others and converting them to your point of view. It is explicitly used in the taunt action.

Religion

Ability: Intelligence
Religion is for knowledge of religious rites, tenets, and scripture. It is explicitly used in the study action.

Sleight of Hand

Sleight of hand is for subtle hand tricks and other acts requiring fine motor control.

Stealth
